Do sterling silver earrings irritate ears?
Sterling silver or 925 silver is classed as hypoallergenic, so should not irritate your ears. All of our earrings are sterling silver, apart from the embroidered chinese earrings which have a non-silver hook.
What is the history of shell jewellery?
As an archipelago, Indonesia has a strong history of shell jewellery. Researchers have found evidence of handcrafted shell beads dating back 12,000 years! These were flat, almost sequin-like beads which researchers believe were used to adorn clothing. The silversmiths we work with are proudly continuing a millenia-long tradition of incorporating beautiful abalone (commonly known as paua, though this is a Maori term) into their work.
