This hand stamped batik fabric comes from Java, where the very best batik in the world is produced. It is made for us at a small family workshop in the town of Jogyakarta where batik has been made for many generations.
The batik is made on crisp, best quality cotton and is machine washable. Because of the final process, the dyes are very colour fast. The batik fabric is available here by the metre, or here as fat quarter sets.

What is batik?
Simply put, batik is a technique of creating patterns using wax resist and dyes. Whilst it is mostly a technique that is applied to textiles, it is also possible to use it on wood and paper to great effect!
Can batik be done in different ways?
There are many ways to apply the wax when doing batik - the most common in commercial batik production is with copper stamps, but another method is by using a canting (pronounced tjanting) or wax pen to draw a design freehand.
